Vázquez: "I ask the fans for trust and support, even though we may not deserve it"

The coach assures that the team is solid, fluid, and tough to beat at home

Coach Fernando Vázquez met with the press to preview today´s game between Mallorca and Elche, and highlight that the team is “in good form, solid and playing with rhythm” and that they are aware that at the Iberostar Stadium “it is difficult to beat us.” Relatedly, the coach explained that the team is competing well, “results are another thing, but you cannot say that the team doesn´t compete. The results haven´t come, we lack some creativity and that final pass, but the intensity and commitment is there.”

The Galician asked for support from the fans, “a full and passionate stadium gives a lot to the team. Pressure from the start is vital. Though we may not deserve it, I ask the fans for a favor, that they trust in us and that they come to help us in these tough games” and he went on to comment, in his opinion, “unity of everyone is the key in these moments, even though things haven’t gone our way recently.” Vázquez recalled that when he arrived, the expectations were high, even his own, and though salvation will be joyous, “the final feelings might not be that joyous. There will be nothing to celebrate.”

The professor of the game confirmed that there will be some changes to his team for the game today, “we are still awaiting on the sanctions for Yuste and Brandon” but still felt that Mallorca has a small advantage over its rivals, “if anyone was aware of what we play for as soccer players, they would know that we are under tremendous responsibility.” We know what we have to play for and we believe that we can get the win. We know that we are depending on ourselves, so we have to focus and not make excuses to win against Elche.”

Albeit his opponent, Vázquez had words of praise for the opposing coach, who is “very organized, dangerous, and well prepared. He is having a great season and vying from promotion. They are going to come out strong,” he concluded.
