Luis García Plaza: ‘It has been a party and now it’s time to celebrate’

The manager analysed our 2-1 comeback against Real Zaragoza

Luis García Plaza couldn’t hide his delight as he spoke to the media after our 2-1 win against Real Zaragoza in what was the final home fixture of a promotion season. Find out what the boss had to say about the victory, the season and Miquel Parera.

On the match...

"In the first half we were not getting forward and in the second half the opposite, we went up with everything we had and we played some very good football. In Ponferrada there will be players who have played less time, one of them will be Koke (Vegas), that's how it is and I have to look them in the face and I told them that. Against Real Zaragoza it has been a party and we have to enjoy it."

On the season...

"We have 81 points, every time I think about it I get the shakes. We are one point behind a team like Espanyol which says a lot about the team. Today we came from behind and it was something that was long overdue.

"I know how it is, the day I lose they will give it to me. I see the team's identification with the fans and I'm very happy here. I hope the results allow me stay here for a long time in Mallorca. This year has been great and next year I hope it will be very good within the objective we set for ourselves. I would like to stay here for a long time, but it depends on the results. It is where I want to be and I do not consider anything else. I trust that the results will allow me to extend my stay for a long time.”

On Parera...

"I've told the captains. I asked them if they didn't mind him being captain. I rewarded him for five years in the shadow of Manolo - he trains like an animal, he is a beast and it is not a prize for this season, but rather for the five years he has been Manolo's substitute. He is Mallorcan, he feels at home in the team and I had to reward him. Next week it's Koke's turn. I am very happy for him, I was even thinking of changing him and putting Reina on, but I needed the last substitution.”
