Pre-season match report: RCD Mallorca 1-0 Sant Andreu

Our first game ahead of the new season ends with a victory

Our pre-season got off to a winning start as we beat UE Sant Andreu 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Dani Luna.

Shareholder in the club and NBA legend Steve Nash was joined by Dirk Nowitzki and 1,000 fans at Ciutat Esportiva Antonio Asensio.

Jagoba Arrasate named a mix of youth and experience in his staritng XI as Cuéllar was named in goal, Abdon led the line and Mateu Morey featured in defence.

The deciding goal came in the 25th minute when Luna latched onto a tee up from Abdon to find the back of the net with a clever finish.

Johan Mojica had our only other opportunity in the first half as we went into the break with the advantage.

Martin Valjent:

What are your feelings after this first game?

"Well, we're in the middle of the pre-season and we're starting with the first game. The good thing is to be winning and above all it has to be physically useful. From a footballing point of view, we have to polish the schemes, the details and improve and put a load on our legs."

Has the reunion with the fans been nice?

"It's a joy to see our fans again. Although it's a bit atypical time, 9.30am, they have come as usual and that fills us with enthusiasm. After the training camp in Austria we will have the opportunity to see the fans again and that is always special. So we're really looking forward to it."

How are the three new players?

"Very good, very good. They are three guys who come to help the team and to contribute from day one. Obviously, in the case of Pablo, being Spanish, the adaptation will be much easier. With Lucas and Salhi it might be a bit more difficult, but between all of us we have to do our best to make them feel comfortable, integrated and at home. So, in general, everything is going well."

Jagoba Arrasate

How do you feel about this first meeting?

"Good, good. We've started our preparation and, as is normal, there are things to improve and others that we've done well. The most important thing now is to accumulate minutes and that there are no setbacks."

Were you looking forward to playing?

"Yes, I think that's the beauty of it. Putting on the shirt, which is very nice, and facing a rival. In the end you can do a lot of training sessions but this is what we all want. This is where you can see our level the most."

What do you expect from the training camp in Austria?

"We have to take a step forward there. We still have days to accumulate sessions but what we want to do there is to compete against big rivals in a few days. It will be difficult but that's what we need right now."
