Vazquez: “we didn’t put an spectacular performance, but deserved to win”

The manager backs fans to protest as they have the right to do so, yet says “it’s difficult to play like that”

Fernando Vazquez has met the press after the draw against Zaragoza at home and highlighted that the team has deserved more against the rival today. “We had more chances. I respect the fans to express their opinion, but the team’s making big efforts and they deserve a better atmosphere. Today the team fought in a difficult atmosphere”.

The manager recognized that he is not satisfied with the result despite the amazing fact of coming back from behind twice in the score. “I had faith in the victory, I thought we would get it, but our errors did penalize us dearly. We have chances but they’re not coming inside. Their second goal is a deflection. That fortune is one we’re not having.”

In what regards the fans’ voiced scorn, the Galician pointed out that “for the team is difficult to play like this. I don’t mean for me. Protest don’t affect the way I work, but I would like to play in a different atmosphere for the players. I respect fans so much and they have to the right to protest, but it’s so complicated to play like this.”. Thus, during the game, “I didn’t think about the shouts; I was thinking on how to sort out the problems we were facing. Maybe today was the day that I have moved my players most throughout the pitch”.

VAzquez commented that in football, the result is “not always controllable. In my opinion, we didn’t pull out a great game, but we if any, we deserved better fortunes than Zaragoza . I exonerate Santamaria from the blame as the shot caught him off-guard outside his goal. That is my fault because I ask him to play as the last defender.”

Finally, the manager pointed out that the team can still improve. “We need more accuracy upfront and avoid those mistakes that are costing us goals. In defence we didn’t suffer, we went for the ball, but they play good football too. I trust the team.”
