Vázquez: “I want to give people what they want: won games”

Fernando Vázquez has attended media ahead of the clash between RCD Mallorca and Cadiz next Sunday and has told the press that spectacular atmosphere at the Carranza “will motive us too. Nobody likes to play in an empty stadium, it will be a pretty game to play. We are looking forward to it and the team is faring well”. The manager, in this vein, admits winning is key, yet not only after Day 1’s defeat. He also reminded that it is still early days, “we are on kilometer 1 of the marathon. No-one can bet against us yet. I hope we retrieve positions soon, the sooner the better. I want to give people what they want: won games”.

The head coach, when asked about how he would like to see his team performs, said “I want to control the ball, like in the Reus game, but with chances and hopefully scoring. If versus Reus we would have scored, everything would have been different. With regard to the criticism already received from the environment he said “I feel pressura at a distance. I did hear the public’s discontent. I will never slash critiques back, I would like to remember that start well is not to win the first game – I meant the first few months. It seemed to me, that after the game Mallorca that is was all over for us, and that is not true. I feel I have a strong squadand I am sure we will demonstrate it”.

As regards the rival, he underlined that the team is “well rounded, product of hard work, like Cadiz has been showing in the preseason. It is a complicated team, hard and difficult, mostly at home. They are know for the compactness as a group, they defend well and most of the player join the attack. We will play our game in our style, no assistance will be given to us, we have to investigate their weak points and exploit them.

Lastly, Vázquez reiterated that his personal goal is promotion and this goal does not contradict with the message from the Club: take it game by game. “I am no-one to indicate the Club’s sporting and institution politics, but I believe in my craft and my drive is to get promoted. I am not scared, I take the challenge, but we cannot think we are going to be promoted in October. We should not try to run before we can walk. There will be ups and downs. I just request their dedication to my players. I do not feel I am a failure for losing one game. This path is a long one and we will lose again some day, but we will stand back on. If the team follows my lead, we will reach our goal.”
