In the ninth installment of ‘12 Matches, 12 Opportunities,’ we get an inside look at the fan welcome the RCD Mallorca team bus received ahead of our draw against Villarreal CF.
We also went behind the scenes in the home locker room to see and hear some of the instructions and motivation from the players and staff members under Martín Demichelis - from Johan Mojica’s encouragement to the team’s rallying cry and the final meeting with the entire squad before taking to the pitch.
A match in which Mallorca started off trailing, but in which they deserved much more and ended up earning a point that is by no means insignificant.
“Every point counts. Every point in the league is very important. We need to keep adding points, keep fighting with these guys, and now we’re focused on Wednesday,” said Vedat Muriqi, the goal scorer, once the match was over. “This point could be worth much more if we get something out of Wednesday’s game as well. We have two vital away matches: one against Getafe and another against Levante. For me, we’re practically going to decide everything there,” added our striker.
For his part, Manu Morlanes emphasized that within the “12-match league, the team is performing magnificently” and believes that if they stick to their game plan in the final matches, “there are reasons to believe and dream of survival.”
The captain during the match, Martin Valjent, indicated that it is time to “be strong, focused, and very united” and that the team is going to give “absolutely everything” to achieve the goal of staying up. “Wednesday is already a huge game for us. A huge opportunity. We have to keep it up: confident on the ball, pressuring the opponent, and wanting to prove that we’re better,” added the Slovakian.
