Miquel Genovart an example to others as RCD Mallorca is represented at in the Mallorca 312

The season ticket holder shared his inspiring story after competing in the route

Seventy riders cycled in Mallorca 312, one of the island's most emblematic cycling events wearing the RCD Mallorca jersey this week.

Among them, the story of Miquel Genovart, season ticket holder 19,333 of the club, whose participation was much more than a sporting record: it was an act of self-improvement.

"I'm running this race because I had a serious accident," Miquel said. On that fateful day, on a route that he had run with his companions on other occasions, at the top of Puig de Santa Magdalena (Inca), fate crossed his path. Just after telling one of his companions that he should avoid any more falls, because he had already had several that year, the first bend changed his life.

"On the first corner I hit a root, lost control and went flying. I couldn't move," he said. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition. "I came very close to losing mobility in my legs," he confessed. The after-effects were tough: twelve screws in his spine and a long process of operations and rehabilitation.

But Miquel did not give up and he was clear about his goal: "It was clear to me that when the staples were removed I would get back on my bike. For me it is therapeutic, going out and cycling for hours. I didn't want to be afraid of cycling. And I wasn't, I took the bike and completed the 312."

RCD Mallorca is proud to have been present, through its jersey, in a story that symbolises the spirit of self-improvement that moves the island. Because behind every bib, there are people like Miquel, who inspire beyond sport.
