RCD Mallorca will face its first opponent of the season this Saturday. At 9:30 p.m., Estadi Mallorca Son Moix will host Real Valladolid CF to kick off LaLiga Hypermotion, and Luis García spoke this Thursday morning to discuss the team’s condition, the latest updates on the roster, and his thoughts on the season opener.
The Bermellón coach is pleased with where the squad stands heading into the 2026/27 LaLiga Hypermotion opener: “I think we’re heading into this with a very positive outlook, with clear progress in terms of our philosophy, our concepts, and what we’re aiming for. We’re ready for this opening match to compete well, but we have to keep improving.”
He also emphasized that, even though the transfer window is still open, his priority is this Saturday’s match: “My focus is solely on the players who are here and on channeling all my energy and everything I can into the players who are here and who have chosen to be here.”
Following the pre-season friendlies, García has stated that his approach is “clear”:
“We want to be a brave team, one that tries to take the initiative, but which at the same time understands the different phases of a match.” However, the manager warns that they cannot “underestimate the quality of our opponents and the difficulty of the league” and adds that “there will be tough moments when we’ll struggle, and that’s when we need to defend well and stick together.”
The RCD Mallorca manager has cleared up some doubts regarding the first official squad list. As for the new signing, Josep Cerdà, who has been struggling with an ankle niggle, García has stated that “he has what it takes to make the squad, but we’ll have to see how he is between now and match day”. Meanwhile, whilst Arnau Puigmal has already been able to train normally and “if there are no setbacks, he’ll be available for selection”, Justin Kalumba will still be sidelined.
When asked who will be in goal, the Bermellón manager stated that he does not like “talking about second, third or first choices” and reiterated that they are all a team and “any one of them will defend the goal to the best of their ability”.
Regarding Real Valladolid CF, García pointed out that the Valladolid team “was in the First Division two seasons ago” and that “it has a fantastic coach, very good players, and has had a very successful and interesting transfer window.”
