RCD Mallorca claim their first away win of the season

A 0-1 victory over Real Sociedad B thanks to Adrián Fuentes’ 81st-minute goal

RCD Mallorca secured their first away victory of the season with a 0-1 win over Real Sociedad B at Zubieta, thanks to a solitary goal from Adrián Fuentes. The striker now has four goals in six matches, while the Bermellones recorded their fifth clean sheet of the season and their fourth in a row.

Luis García named the following starting XI: Arnau Tenas in goal, with Miguel Calatayud, Martin Valjent, Antonio Raíllo and Abou Soumahoro once again forming the defence. Pablo Torre, Alex Sala, Sergi Darder, Manu Morlanes and Adrián Liso started in midfield, with Fuentes leading the line.

The Mallorquinistas began the game looking to press high and take the initiative through possession, making use of the movement and numbers they had in midfield.

However, during the opening 20 minutes, it was Real Sociedad B who posed the greater threat, mainly through quick transitions down the flanks. Tenas, the Bermellón defence and a lack of cutting edge from the hosts kept the score at 0-0.

RCD Mallorca then managed to adjust defensively, allowing them to suffer less, although the Real Sociedad reserve side continued to push forward and create attacking situations. At the other end, Luis García’s side found it difficult to trouble Aitor Fraga’s goal.

Mallorca’s clearest chance came in the 40th minute, when Liso delivered a cross from the left and found Fuentes, whose first-time effort flew narrowly wide of one of the posts. It was one of the final chances of the first half, which ended goalless.

At the break, Luis García made a change, bringing on Arnau Puigmal in place of Calatayud. The game remained evenly balanced after the restart, while RCD Mallorca looked to create more openings in the home side’s penalty area, although without generating significant danger.

The introductions of Josep Cerdà, Antoniu Roca and debutant John Chetauya gave the team fresh energy as they looked to break the deadlock. Adam Buksa also came on a few minutes later and partnered Fuentes up front for the final quarter of an hour.

RCD Mallorca, who were under less pressure in the second half, grew into the game in the closing stages following the substitutions. Cerdà and Roca both tried their luck from outside the area before Fuentes, following an excellent individual move, beat Fraga to make it 0-1 in the 81st minute. It was the striker’s fourth goal of the season.

Luis García’s side saw out the closing minutes without conceding any chances and secured their first away win of the season as well as their fifth clean sheet.
