The boss shared his thoughts after our 1-1 draw with Elche
Javier Aguirre spoke the media in his post-match press conference following our 1-1 draw with Elche. Ezequiel Ponce gave the hosts the lead in the first half after Vedat Muriqi missed an early penalty, but out striker made no mistake from the spot to secure us a point away from home in a game where both sides reached the final whistle with 10 men. Find out what the boss had to say below:
On the match...
"Well, I think that the explanation at this moment is superfluous because with penalties, red cards, rain, delays and general madness, in the end, both teams gave their best, were honest with their effort and I think that none of the players and teams deserved to go home with a defeat. So, in the end, this is the fairest thing to do."
On scoring chances...
"I think that today football reiterated that you win and lose on the chances you have. I think that we started with chances to score and we didn't even score our first penalty and they scored the first goal.
"So there was no correlation between the game we played and the score at halftime. Afterwards, the team had chances to get the equaliser and we kept trying to get the victory. They didn't give up on winning even with 10 men, but they made a good effort. I think the fans were happy with what they saw on the pitch. These are matches in which so many things happen. We would have liked to win, but we were also on the verge of losing, so the thermometer is that if we don't fight, if we don't score the goals we create, we will suffer."
