Fran Gamez: ‘When La Liga returns, a sprint of 11 games awaits us’

The defender spoke to Play Red about a return to first-team training following almost two months of lockdown

Fran Gamez says he can’t wait to get back to first-team training after almost two months of lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Having been confined to home workouts via video call following the suspension of competitive fixtures, the defender believes the squad are both motivated and prepared for a potential return to football.

“It will be a little strange at first because we’ve been training alone at home for a while, but getting back on the pitch, which is where we like to be, makes us very excited,” he told Play Red. “The beginning of the confinement was the hardest part because there was little information and we didn’t know what was going to happen.

“There was a lot of uncertainty, but little by little, we were got into our routine and everything became a little easier. Thanks to working through video calls, we’ve been able to maintain contact and keep the group together.

“Whatever happens, we want to be out on the pitch. Despite being in relegation spot, we were having a good year. We want to prove in remaining league games that we're worthy of staying up in the Primera División on our own merits.”
