Joan Sastre: ‘We'll be ready for when the competition resumes’
The defender spoke to Play Red about preparations to return to competitive football and life in lockdown
Joan Sastre has shared his delight ahead of an imminent resumption of first-team training with Play Red.
Following almost two month’s of suspended competition, the defender is keen to ensure he and his team-mates are game ready should La Liga football return.
“I’m looking forward to training at Son Bibiloni again,” he told Play Red. “The truth is, I’ve really missed it. I don’t care if we can only train individually at the beginning, I’ll be excited and motivated to do it. We’ve got to be prepared in case the competition starts again.
“From a professional point of view, the hardest thing has been not being able to share what you love most with your colleagues. Seeing that we've had to train by video call and cannot see each other in person, it’s something we could have never imagined before all this.”
Lockdown in Spain has meant footballers across the country have been restricted to home workouts, although Sastre believes the squad will hit the ground running having toiled relentlessly since the state of alarm introduced.
“I have no doubt that the body is going to respond very well for all of us because we’ve prepared ourselves in the best manner for when we return so we have the best possible physical shape," he added. "As professionals, it’s the best we could do.”
