RCD Mallorca took part in the Congreso 'Violencia en el Deporte' held in Palma, a forum for discussion organised by the Balearic Islands Football Federation (FFIB) to address one of the main challenges facing football today.
The club’s CEO of business, Alfonso Díaz, took part in the second round-table discussion alongside representatives from the refereeing community, former footballers and coaches, in a debate focused on the need to eradicate all forms of violence both on and off the pitch.
During the meeting, it became clear that, although violent incidents have decreased in recent years, they remain present and affect all levels of the sport. In this regard, particular emphasis was placed on the pressure faced by referees, a group that accounts for more than 50% of recorded assaults, as well as the persistence of verbal abuse, which is often overlooked.
Alfonso Díaz emphasised the role of professional clubs as social role models, highlighting their responsibility in promoting values and implementing concrete measures. In this regard, he explained that the club’s work is based on three fundamental pillars: prevention, grassroots education, and the application of protocols and sanctions.
The conference also served to highlight the importance of continuing to raise social awareness, as well as the need to drive regulatory changes and awareness campaigns that help create safe environments in football.
