Vedat Muriqi scored twice to become our record goalscorer before Jan Virgili opened his club account in a convincing 3-0 win against Rayo Vallecano.
Martin Demichelis had to rotate in defence due to injuries as Omer Mascarell continued in central defence partnered by David Lopez.
Chances were few and far between during the opening exchanges as we were limited to efforts from distance.
A quick turn over in possession the 31st minute brought the game to life with Zito Luvumbo finding the back of the net having raced in behind, although his smart finish was ruled out for offside.
We would not be denied six minutes later as Muriqi ghosted in at the back post to put the finishing touch to Sergi Darder’s whipped corner which had been flicked on by Samu Costa.
Muriqi would get his second and make club history as our record goalscorer when he fired home Luvumbo’s whipped cross on the counter to put us two goals to the good come the break.
The woodwork would deny Pablo Torre from getting in on the action 10 minutes after the break when some clever footwork and a tidy combination with Luvumbo saw him rattle the post from a tight angle.
Jan Virgili put the game beyond doubt with our third in the 65th minute when he slipped in at the back post to volley home Pablo Torre’s whipped free-kick into the box.
The visitors would test Roman from distance with a series of half chances but we looked comfortable for the remaining 25 minutes and saw out an important victory.
