RCD Mallorca president Andy Kohlberg announced on Wednesday a €850,000 commitment to support the La Nostra Mar project, a new initiative by the Fundació Reial Mallorca aimed at contributing to the protection and conservation of the Mediterranean.
Kohlberg will be La Nostra Mar’s first donor, contributing €425,000 through his personal private foundation. In addition, he has committed to matching contributions from other donors until a further €425,000 is raised, with the aim of increasing the resources dedicated to protecting the Mediterranean and encouraging more individuals and organizations to join the project.
“If we want to ask others to make a commitment, we must be the first to do so”, said the president of RCD Mallorca during the presentation.
Kohlberg explained that La Nostra Mar was created with a clear long-term commitment and the goal of bringing together individuals, organizations and communities around a common purpose: protecting the Mediterranean and helping to preserve its richness for future generations.
“We don’t want this to be just another project. We want it to be a long-term commitment”, Kohlberg said. “We want to bring people together, pool our efforts and turn our ability to mobilize people into actions that help protect our sea”.
Therefore, the aim is for this commitment to serve as the starting point for a collective movement that grows over time and makes it possible to develop increasingly ambitious conservation projects.
La Nostra Mar will begin its journey in the Balearic Sea, with the aim of ensuring that the knowledge and experiences generated can serve as inspiration and be extended to other areas of the Mediterranean.
