Generals, leaders, and first team captains, Aveldaño, Yuste, Cabrero, Company, and Pereira appeared in solidarity in front of the press today to reaffirm the team´s conviction. Given the precarious position that the team faces, those leaders assured the press that they understand what is at stake and guaranteed the fans that they will give it all they´ve got against Valladolid.
So, Aveldaño promised that no soccer player wants to be in these sorts of situations, “but, as professionals, we have to be prepared” and he mentioned that in the game on Saturday, “everybody´s future is in the balance. I hope that Sunday we are happy with what transpired.” Meanwhile, the Argentinian pointed out that the group did not want to think about the other results, “we have to win, we are convinced that we will win, and after the game we will see how the other things played out.”
The commanding central defender recognized that it is not easy to bring intensity day after day, but he did mention that “our positivity is contagious. In this test of grit, we all must approach the game with everything that we´ve got.” Aveldaño went on to say that in his view, the team is doing well. And he assured everybody that the team will avoid the drop, but still, “it won´t save the year.” The defender spoke with an unwavering conviction that “we will take this situation as it comes. We may have played a lot, but we are going to give this one everything that we´ve got.”
Additionally, he emphasized the support and encouragement that the team had received from the directors and owners of the club, “we received a cordial and calming message, we know that we have their support and that of the fans as well, we just ask them to be confident in us.” Then, he denied that they have made any contact with colleagues from other clubs implicated in the Saturday night games, “we have not spoken with anyone because all that we can control is our game, which we must win. I am convinced that we will get what we need.”
The defender from Rafaela, Argentina, again assured the onlookers that “despite the blow, we still have a chance. We have to show that we are the ones with something to play for. If we play well, we will win.”
Relatedly, Héctor Yuste, recalled that “it is obvious what the objective was and now the onus falls on us. The previews are done, we have to show the feature presentation. Now we have to be together because we are convinced that if we win, we are safe.” The midfielder-turned-defender also confirmed that he does not want to know the results of other matches during his own game, “I prefer to concentrate on the serious contest at hand, and we will be confident in doing so. We assume that we are in this position from our own doing and now we have to carry out our duty for the club, fans, and each other.”
Yuste pledged his allegiance to the fans who “have given a lesson of what they want the club to be” and he asked them to excuse this unsightly situation. Nonetheless, just like his comrade Aveldaño, Yuste explained that the team has to go out with concentration from the beginning, “it will be a long game and we cannot have any lapses. We have to clearly and convincingly show that we have something to play for.”
