Vazquez: “we need a victory, nobody can blame us for not trying”

The managers hails team-play and great rapport to overcome the current situation

Fernando Vazquez has met the press ahead of the home clash to Girona on Sunday and has admitted the current situation is not an easy one, “and the reality is that we play happily and with enthusiasm. We have to take the game as always, trying to control the game and prevent chances from the opposition”. The manager recognized that “it is clear that the team needs a victory so bad, yet no-one can blame us for not trying. We are superior than the teams we play, but football’s law has it – the team scoring most wins the game, and we are not doing that”.

The Galician praised Girona as a solid team “hard work and good scoring record”, yet he would like the team to continue in the same strategy as used recently and creating chances from the back. “We just need more accuracy. It is not necessarily a bad moment, but a moment to step up”. However, the manager pointed out the “good mentality of the team” and repeated that no sadness should be aprehended but happiness when playing. “We have to prevent their chances, create team-play and define when shooting on goal. If we play like that, victories will roll soon”.

Vazquez takes pressure off strikers for not scoring because “in this team we all attack and defend” and reminded that the lack of accuracy is just a matter of time. “Maybe we have to create clearer chances. It is not an ansiety problem, just an accuracy one. Some day we will open the cork and goals will come one after another”.

The manager said that he is happy with the way the team plays, “but also this style of play I hope can deliver points. My drive was to start well and it has not been possible. Sooner or later victories have to come. Sad thing is that some teams will increase gap at the top. The defeat is a difficult thing to take, but I trust my players”.
