Vazquez: “We have to maintain composure against a difficult rival.”

Fernando Vazquez spoke to the press after the 0-0 tie against Alaves and highlighted that the team “maintained its composure against a difficult rival,” and added that even though the team is not happy with the result, “we added a point, and a point is still a point.” In that respect, the Galician affirmed that if Mallorca play with strength, determination, and enthusiasm, “we are a difficult team to beat.”

The coach commented that from the opening part of the game, “you could see that Mallorca wanted to win,” but conceded that there were times in which the team was sloppy. In addition, after questions from the media, he reiterated, “it is better to add one point to the total, than none at all. We must keep working.”

Vazquez did not view the team’s play as tense, but “it seemed that there was a certain anxiety, not fear, at some stage of the meeting, we lost a little control.” Still, despite the circumstances, he stressed that “the team handled the pressure well. The result is not good, but the team still showed strong.”

Over the past few days, the coach recalled that the team has had more confidence from better psychological control, and in that regard, “every team that has something to play for is going to feel pressure. It is important to step up to that pressure.”

Finally, the coach lamented that Damia, through yellow card accumulation, and Oriol, through suspension, will not play the next game, “I have had these problems since I arrived,” and while important, “others will step up and do just as well.” The coach is optimistic about the end of the season, “I believe in what I do. I am confident in my work,” so he concluded.
