Vázquez: "We have to demonstrate to Córdoba that we have more to play for than they do"

The tactician praised the fans and assured them that he intends to compensate them for their hard work next year

The manager repeated his call to action for the fans´ support, “give us what you did during the last game. We have no right, but I would like to ask them to come back with us for 90 more minutes of tough, tense, and emotional soccer. And next year, we intend to compensate them for their steadfast support.”

As for the teams´ motivation, the Spanish-mainlander confidently stated that Mallorca would have more motivation “and this is what we have to take note of on the field. My players have to show the Córdoba players that we have more to play for than them. It is not the same, playing for promotion and fighting against relegation, so we have to take everything and give nothing.” In that regard, he admitted that the Andalusian team does have some big-name goal scorers, who play well, but Mallorca is still confident, “we intend to take advantage of their flaws, while being conscious of their strengths. We have to be careful.”

As such, the coach reminded the spectators that Córdoba also needs to win to keep their promotion hopes alive, “but we could use this in our favor, if we know how to play it well” and he repeated that instead of worrying about the opponents, “we just have to work hard, prepare, and execute.”

Coach Vázquez confirmed that he does not worry about the confidence of his players, “the problem now could be excessive motivation that could alter our style of play” and, although he acknowledged that “we are a bit tense,” he pointed out that there are teams in worse circumstances. “We have to play with intensity, but also with intelligence. It won´t matter if we lack passion if we don´t play with intelligence.” So, he confirmed that he would ask his own warriors for the same attitude that they brought last Tuesday, “that they go to the ball and defend intensely. We have to play with determination. Now, the mental aspect is more important than the physical one.”
