Vázquez: "We failed to create chances, but we did control the opponent"
The coach lamented the missed opportunity because of the dubiously awarded penalty.
Fernando Vázquez confronted the press after the defeat against Girona, and commented that Mallorca had control of the game “minus the penalty.” In as much, he assured that the team did many things well and that the penalty was decisive and “super dubiously awarded. It was a gift to the opponent and it changed everything. Girona had to win and they can thank this change in approach for that. I believe that the game was ours.”
The coach assured that “not one player thought about losing” and that winning the game, he reiterated, “I believe that we controlled the opponent. It is true that we failed to create clear chances, but we were better tactically. We clearly failed to rise above,” he lamented.
“Control, winning the ball back, and the ability to move the ball forward is what we had” the coach highlighted slightly before commenting that, with this result, Mallorca lost the ability to approach the last few games with a bit more tranquility, “the season will be decided in the end or near-end weeks. It is what it is and we have to accept it,” he concluded.
