Balear Pride: Seven homegrown players feature against FC Barcelona

We had seven players from the island feature against FC Barcelona

We reached a milestone for the first time this season by fielding seven homegrown players in our game against FC Barcelona at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

Abdón Prats and Sergi Darder from Artà, Mateu Jaume Morey from Petra, Leo Román from Ibiza, Antonio Sánchez a Palma native, Jan Salas from Binissalem and Marc Domènech from Llucmajor all represented the Balaeric islands in our 1-0 defeat to FC Barcelona.

A season-long trend

The presence of Balearic players in the RCD Mallorca first team has not been a one-off, but a constant throughout the season with an accumlated 5,563 official minutes reached by players from the islands in LaLiga this season.

Among those is Sergi Darder who has made 33 appearances and amounted more than 2,400 minutes while Antonio Sánchez has made 28 appearances and more than 1,100 minutes.

Younger players such as Jan Salas, Marc Domènech and Javi Llabrés have also been given the opportunity to get minutes - with the latter being loaned to Eldense to find more playing time in professional football - as the future looks bright for football from the islands.

This group symbolises the connection between the club, its community and its people and the continued production of academy-made players.
