Omar Mascarell is a man with something to shout about.
Our midfielder scored his first goal in LaLiga last week against Real Valladolid as we came back from behind to win 2-1 at home.
We spoke to our midfielder as we now turn our attention to a trip to Real Madrid this Wednesday evening.
Question: Tell us about the goal against Real Valladolid. You looked like a real centre forward...
Answer: I know for sure that [Maffeo] is going to cross. I'm hanging back at the far post, and when I see him going to cross with his left foot, I think there's a chance it could go a little long, and that could be an area where the ball could fall. In the end, Muriqi is in front of me, dragging two defenders by himself, and I'm lucky that it falls to me. I don't even think about it. I just come in with everything, hit it and I'm lucky enough to get it in.
Q: Did you have the celebration planned?
A: Let's see, so as I never score goals, it's a celebration I had in mind. I made the initials of my children and my girlfriend. They're my mainstay, the ones I share my daily life with, the ones who are there through thick and thin, and what better way to dedicate it than to them.
Q: An important goal that led to an important victory, right?
A: Yes, it was very important because it was a difficult game. It's true we were playing at home against the bottom team, but those games can always go wrong in the end. They're a team that plays without pressure because they were mathematically relegated. I think the equaliser freed us up, and from then on, we were better in the game, and we were also lucky that in the second half, right at the start, we took the lead. We took the three points, which are extremely important for the fight.
Q: And now, Real Madrid. How are you approaching the game?
A: Wednesday's game is a great one. A game we all enjoy playing. It's in a spectacular stadium and against an opponent we already know is great. They're coming into the match on a bad run. We're going to try, with all our strengths, to get something positive out of it. We have to keep our minds set on the fact that it's going to be a tough game, that we're going to have to run a lot, that we're going to have to be very good defensively, but that we can get something out of it. We'll do everything we can to make that happen.
