Mateu Morey, Sergi Darder and Jagoba Arrasate reflect on our 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid

The players and the boss reflected on our loss in the capital

Mateu Morey, Sergi Darder and Jagoba Arrasate spoke to the media after our 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the capital. Find out what the players and our boss had to say below:

Mateu Morey:

On the match: ‘I think we deserved the point, that we had fought, these are things in football. We knew it was very difficult to score here, but the good thing about football is that on Sunday we have another chance at home and we'll need the fans to get the three points.'

On commitment: ‘The team is very committed, we showed it during the 90 minutes. It slipped away from us in the last play, these are things that happen, things that happen in football. But it will make us stronger, on Sunday we will get the three points at home.'

Sergi Darder:

On the match: ‘Well, it was a match where we knew we would have to suffer to get something out of it. We knew that surely, even having gone in at half-time with a goal, it wouldn't be enough for us, we had to score the second. That's how it happened. But I think we have to give credit to the team, it's very difficult to take the lead here, the defensive work done by the team was spectacular, from the goalkeeper to the striker. It's true that we lacked that continuity, those three or four steps to string together success in the opposition half, maybe we should have come out a bit more. But of course, at 0-1, what you want to do is cover up. As I say, it hurts, because losing like that is painful. But well, on Sunday there's a final and there's no time to think.'

On the future: ‘I think that the Mallorcan player today has to leave proud, because however much anger we all have, myself first, with a feeling of saying “I'd rather win 4-0 and have nothing to do than like this”, because it hurts and surely today we are not able to see optimism and see the pride that I think we should have.... but deep down, it's there. I think the game we played here today was very good, we got a lot of positive things out of it, probably also others that we could have done, but there's nothing to lose. If we had drawn today it wouldn't have done us any good either, in the sense that we wouldn't be going to Europe, we needed to win on Sunday. We know that Sunday is a final at home: it's the last home game of the season, so we need our fans. There is nothing clearer than that, the team is convinced that it is capable of winning these remaining games, because the team believes that this is the most important thing. As I say, it's all about Sunday and we don't have to waste another second, we have to think about Sunday now.'

Jagoba Arrasate:

On the match: ‘Very tough, above all because of the outcome and the way it went. It's true that here you know you're going to suffer, but that's fine. We held our own in the first half, the second half was harder for us, especially when we had to get out and surprise. But well, when we had a point already in our hands, it hurts a lot.’

On the defeat: ‘On these pitches you need to be on the right side of things, which we did in that action by Martin. You also need the goalkeeper to be good, and I think he was good. It's a pity about the one-on-one with the one. And, above all, the last action; I think the game was already over, Courtois had gone up, we had cleared in the first instance... but then, well, it was a bit unlucky, we couldn't do anything else, too. A very cruel outcome, but we have such an important game on Sunday that we can't be lamenting.'

On the future: ‘I think we have to transform the anger we have now into energy for Sunday: there are two games left, we still have beautiful things to play for. Right now it's difficult to be optimistic, because it's a big blow, but that's fine. We have to recover and on Sunday, with our fans, play a good game.’
