Match Report: Real Madrid 2-1 RCD Mallorca

We are unlucky to fall to defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu

Martin Valjent’s opener was cancelled out by a Kylian Mbappe strike and an injury time winner by Jacobo Ramón as we fell to a 2-1 defeat at Real Madrid.

Jagoba Arrasate opted for Leo Roman in goal in place of Dominik Grief, while Toni Lato replaced Johan Mojica at left back.

We got off to a dream start when Valjent was played through into the box in the 10th minute and produced a striker’s finish when he found the bottom corner from a tough angle.

Roman had to be at his best to then deny Jude Bellingham giving the hosts an instant response before he then denied Luka Modric from the edge of the box.

Mbappe tried his luck from distance to force Roman into an acrobatic save before Fede Valverde did the same minute before break as we went into the break with a slender lead.

Our resistance was broken in the 68th minute when Mbappe dropped a shoulder, lost his marker and found the bottom corner from a tight angle.

Mateu Morey had our best chance of restoring the lead in the 69th minute when he was played through on goal, although the defender was unable to get past Thibaut Courtois' block.

A defensive mix up with five minutes left on the clock saw Mbappe have the goal at his mercy, but his effort was headed off the line by Valjent thanks to some quick thinking as we fought desperately for a point.

In what was one of the last kicks of the game, a lofted ball into the box deep into injury time was flicked home by Ramón as we left the capital empty handed.
