The Trofeu Ciutat de Palma has become one of the great traditions of the “Bermellón” summer since 1968.

This event has brought together some of the best clubs on the international scene and, each season, marks RCD Mallorca’s reunion with its fans before the start of a new season.

In its early years, the tournament featured four teams competing in a format consisting of semifinals, a third-place match, and the final. Over the years, the competition evolved into its current format, which consists of a single match. It is worth noting that the event was not held between 1998 and 2004, but finally returned in 2005, reviving one of the traditions most cherished by the entire RCD Mallorca community. Subsequently, the tournament could not take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, nor in 2022 and 2023 due to renovation work at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.

Throughout its more than five decades of history, the Trofeu Ciutat de Palma has featured internationally renowned teams such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Hamburger SV, PSV Eindhoven, Napoli, Flamengo, Vasco da Gama, Botafogo, Spartak Moscow, CSKA Sofia, and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Paris Saint-Germain returns to the Trofeu Ciutat de Palma 44 years later. In 1982, the team was crowned champion after defeating Slovan Bratislava 3-0 with goals by Dominique Rocheteau, Mustapha Dahleb, and Michel N'Gom. The team, coached by Georges Peyroche that season, took the field with the following starting lineup: Didier Toffolo, Michel N'Gom, Jean-Claude Lemoult, Osvaldo Ardiles, Mustapha Dahleb, Thierry Col, Sarr Boubacar, Pascal Zaremba, Dominique Bathenay, Luis Fernandez, Jean-Marc Pilorget, and Franck Cardinet. 

With 14 titles, RCD Mallorca is the club that has won the Trofeu Ciutat de Palma the most times.
