Josep Cerdà, known as ‘Pollencí’, who began his football career in the Bermellona youth academy, talks about what his return to the island and to the club where he started has meant to him.

The Balearic striker, who has played for FC Barcelona’s reserve team, UE Olot, Ponferradina and FC Andorra, reflects in this interview on what it means to him to return to the island and the club where he came through the ranks.

Josep Cerdà describes himself as a “friendly and empathetic” person and as a “direct, attacking player who has arrived with a great desire to contribute” to the team.

Looking back to his early days, his memories of RCD Mallorca’s youth academy are marked by the presence of his father, who accompanied him to every training session at Son Bibiloni. “My father always came with me, and I have so many great memories and so much affection for this club,” he says. As a proud Mallorcan and Mallorca supporter, he also remembers his first visit to Estadi Mallorca Son Moix: “I don’t know how old I was, I was very young. We have a photo of all of us together as a family.”

The past few days have been filled with uncertainty for the striker. However, he says that “RCD Mallorca contacted me a few weeks ago, and from the very beginning I was absolutely clear that I wanted to come here.” Yesterday, when he learned that his return to the island was imminent, he says he felt “so happy!” and that the first thing he did was call “my family, who have always been there.”

Josep Cerdà describes his return to the Bermellón club as “really special and unique” and hopes to bring “a lot of joy” to Mallorca’s supporters.

With the Segunda División season about to begin, and RCD Mallorca set to face Valladolid FC in less than a week, Cerdà expects this year’s campaign to be “very tough” and stresses that, as a team, they have to “be strong, especially at home, and try to achieve our objective.”
