Joan Morey has been a season ticket holder of RCD Mallorca for 72 years and is why he holds membership card number one.
He has experienced its most glorious moments and also its most difficult ones, from Lluís Sitjar to Son Moix, and from players such as Joan Forteza to the current squad.
Joan Forteza is precisely the other great protagonist of this conversation: his was the first goal scored by RCD Mallorca in the history of the First Division on 18 September 1960 against Racing Santander.
Together, they emotionally recalled what that goal was like. Furthermore, Forteza was able to walk on the grass of the Mallorca Son Moix stadium and relive those moments as a footballer, despite the fact that he played at the Lluis Sitjar stadium.
Joan Morey also recalls the promotion achieved at the Santiago Bernabéu, despite the defeat against Castilla, thanks to the defeat of Rayo Vallecano, back in 1983. ‘When the two games were over, it was an explosion of joy,’ recalls Morey, who was present at the stadium that day. The other magical night that most excites both of them is that of San Juan in 2019. ‘The game against Dépor here was the most emotional I've ever experienced,’ Morey said in the interview.
But it hasn't all been about looking back. Both agree that there are more and more Mallorquinista fans and, above all, a young base with great passion for the club. They also recognised the good management of the current ownership to consolidate the team in the top flight. Finally, Joan Forteza expressed his hope that Mallorca will not lose the category again, convinced that staying in the top flight is the most important thing for the future of the club.
