Match report Real Mallorca 2 Real Zaragoza 2

The Reds comeback two times after being down twice in the score

Mallorca had to comeback up to two times to get a point against Zaragoza (2-2) at the Iberostar Estadio.

It all started when the visiting team scored a halfway-line strike by Juan Muñoz when Santamaría was too far away from his goal. That turned the game around completely because up until that moment (38th min.), there wasn’t a clear dominator of the game.

It wasn’t enough though for Zaragoza to conquer Palma in their first victory outside of La Romareda.

Mallorca worked very hard for the draw. the sixth in the season and the third in their own turf. The goals scored by Juan Culio, a former Zaragoza player and by the Serb Dejan Lekic neutralized the white goals by Muñoz and Jose Enrique. Mallorca could have got the lead earlier two minutes before Juan Muñoz’s stunner but the goalkeeper Ratón and the post averted any danger, despite Raillo’s efforts over the goal-line. It was a moment of weakness by the away defence, the only one in the first half, that could have cost them dearly. Zaragoza did keep control of the actions but they barely created danger to Santamaría.

Both teams fought for the ball in a first half full of physical effort and little quality over the pitch. In fact, if both teams would have gone to the changing rooms with a 0-0 no-one would have wondered why.

The advantage in the score by Zaragoza did create some insecurity on the Mallorca camp and there were some whistles in the stands, despite that, the team rebuilt itself and took the second half with a different attitude, more direct and decided.

Spaces were exploited by both outfits. The former Zaragoza player Culio levelled the score in the 62th minute and former Liverpool player Jose Enrique, with the involuntary collaboration by Juan Dominguez, scored again to give Zaragoza the lead in the 69th minute.

The Serbian striker Dejan Lekic in the 75th minute, little after replacing Lago Junior, made it level again, and the game opened up. Any of the teams could have scored after that.

The last few minutes saw Mallorca go for the win with Moutinho, Lekic, Brandon and Oscar Diaz all in firing line and Zaragoza locked up deep, defending their golden point at the Iberostar Estadio.
