Match Report: RCD Mallorca 2-3 CA Osasuna

We fall to a disappointing defeat at the Visit Mallorca Estadi

We were unlucky to suffer a 3-2 defeat against CA Osasuna at the Visit Mallorca Estadi having been in front at the break.

Luis García Plaza named a much-changed side to the starting XI which lost 6-1 to Real Madrid earlier in the week. Dominik Grief was handed his debut in place of Manolo Reina, Jaume Costa returned to defence, Iddrisu Baba and Salva Sevilla started in midfield while Dani Rodríguez, Fer Niño, Amath and Kang-In Lee formed our attack.

We couldn’t have wished for a worse start as Cote fired into the far corner with just nine minutes on the clock in what was the visitors’ first shot at goal.

Matters were level three minutes later as Dani Rodríguez provided an instant response when he headed home Salva Sevilla’s whipped cross.

Sergio Herrera was busy throughout the following passages of play as he had to be in fine form to deny Amath, Fer Niño and Kang-In Lee.

We would head into the break with the lead as our pressure resulted in Fernando Niño finding himself unmarked and firing home from close range on the stroke of half-time.

Our lead lasted just under 10 minutes after the restart as Íñigo Pérez unleashed an unstoppable drive to equalise.

The game looked destined to end deadlocked as both sides were limited to a handful of half chances, but against the run of play, Javi Martínez struck to give the visitors a late winner.

We thought we had been handed a dramatic way back into the game in added time when we were awarded a penalty, although a lengthy VAR review ruled out the spot kick for an earlier offside call.

Despite our best efforts to find a late leveller, CA Osasuna held onto leave us empty handed.
