Match report: RCD Mallorca 1-1 RCD Espanyol

We were held to a frustrating draw at the Visit Mallorca Estadi despite calls for a late penalty

We were unlucky not to claim all three points as we were held to a 1-1 draw against RCD Espanyol.

Javier Aguirre set-up with a midfield three of Iddrisu Baba, Íñigo Ruiz de Galarreta and Dani Rodríguez, while Vedat Muriqi and and Kang-In Lee led the forward line.

Chances were few and far between throughout the first half as it took until the half-hour mark before either goalkeeper was called into action as Rajkovic made a smart stop to deny Edu Expósito from distance.

We went into the changing rooms level with little to separate the two sides at the break.

Whatever was said at half-time had an immediate impact as Kang-In Lee first tested Lecomte at his near post having raced in behind almost a minute after the restart.

We built on this momentum and were rewarded in the 47th minute when Gio Gonzalez teed up Muriqi at the far post to poke home and give us the lead.

The hosts levelled on the 70th minute when a freak cross from José Carlos Lazo managed to creep in at the far post from an impossible angle.

There was late drama to follow as in the 86th minute Brian Olivan tripped Angel in the box, and despite calls for a VAR review for the foul, no penalty was given despite protests from Pablo Maffeo and Aguirre which ultimately saw them receive their marching orders.

The scoreline remained the same come full time.
