Match Report: Deportivo Alavés 1-1 RCD Mallorca

Matija Nastasić’s late equaliser means the points are shared at the Mendizorroza

Matija Nastasic’s dramatic equaliser in the 88th minute saw us draw 1-1 with Deportivo Alavés at the Mendizorroza.

Javier Aguirre handed Nemanja Radonjić his first start on the wing since his loan signing while Vedat Muriqi led the line as the central striker with Sergi Darder supporting in behind.

A slow start came to life in the 20th minute when Radonjić was slipped through on goal but saw his delicate chip tipped over the bar.

Manu Morlanes was next to try his luck minutes later although his effort was comfortably blocked from a tight angle at the near post.

Despite a brief positive spell to build momentum from, we headed into the break goalless.

The hosts saw their first opportunity of the game fly over the bar in the 55th minute when Sola curled a free-kick from the wing.

With chances few and far between, Deportivo Alavés took the lead against the run of play in the 76th minute when Carlos Benavídez climbed highest to head home a corner.

We went on the attack in a desperate attempt to level matters as substitute Cyle Larin forced a good save with five minutes left on the clock.

The hosts could not withstand the pressure however as in the 88th minute Nastasic struck from close range following a goalmouth scramble to equalise. We continued to look for a winner, but we had to settle for the points being shared.
