Martin Valjent: ‘Being back out on the pitch makes us very happy'

The defender analysed the senior side's first training session back at Son Bibiloni after over 50 days of lockdown

Martin Valjent couldn’t hide his happiness as the senior side returned to full training at Son Bibiloni for the first time in almost two months.

Following health and safety protocol outlined by La Liga and the Consejo Superior de Deportes, players were able to partake in individual sessions and our centre back says the whole squad has  recieved a boost from stepping back out onto the pitch.

“I’m here to train, to play football, to see my team-mates - all of which is something I couldn’t do during this period of confinement,” he told Play Red. “Now we can go back to doing what we like, I’m much happier and calmer.

“It’s a bit strange and it’s not like before. There are many precautions, something you never expected to happen. On the other hand, it gives you a lot of happiness to be able to see your teammates, the coaching staff and, in short, all those people who were around us on a daily basis. Being able to step out onto the grass again is the best.”

While competitive football still remains suspended for the time being, Valjent believes a potential resumption of La Liga fixtures gives the side something to work towards.

“Now we have a clear objective, we have a goal to prepare for,” he said. “This helps you a lot mentally. We’ll see how the weeks evolve and hope that the competition can be played and everything improves more and more.”
