Martín Demichelis is named the new manager of RCD Mallorca

The Argentine will take over the side for the remainder of the season with a possibility of a further year

Martín Demichelis has been named the new manager of RCD Mallorca until the end of the season with an option for an additional campaign. 

The Argentine coach takes on the role having been in charge of FC Bayern Munich's youth teams and then leading Club Atlético River Plate's first team to a brilliant 2023/24 season, winning three titles: the Argentine League, the Super Cup, and the Champions Trophy.

Subsequently, in the 2024/25 season, he managed Club de Fútbol Monterrey, achieving a record of 20 wins, 11 draws, and 12 defeats in 43 official matches.

As a player, Demichelis has had a long international career, playing for FC Bayern (259 games), Manchester City (106 games), Málaga CF (113 games), and Club Atlético River Plate (70 games).

He also made 51 appearances for the Argentine national team, participating in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he played in the final.

Martín Demichelis will arrive on the island in the next few hours to watch the match against Real Sociedad and take charge of the team in the next training session.

Gustavo Siviero, coach of RCD Mallorca B, will be in charge ifor Saturday's match.
