Match Report: RCD Mallorca 0-1 Real Sociedad

Carlos Soler’s 36th minute strike makes the difference on a frustrating evening at home

Carlos Soler’s 36th minute strike proved to be decisive as we lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix

Interim manager Gustavo Siviero opted for a front three of Matteo Joseph, Vedat Muriqi and Jan Virgili as we looked to take the game to the visitors.

We thought we were about to get off to a dream start when Muriqi went down in the box in the 12th minute although the referee ruled against awarding a penalty.

Virgili would have our first real sight of goal in the 35th minute when he curled an effort from distance, although it was a straight forward stop for the visiting goalkeeper.

Soler would give Real Sociedad the lead a minute later as he reacted first to a deflected effort to volley into the bottom corner.

We headed into the break a goal down with it all to play for in the second half.

Zakharyan was first to try his luck from distance after the restart but his effort went high and wide of the goal to the relief of Leo Roman.

Chances were few and far between in the second half as we struggled to create in the final third with the visitors defending well in a compact units and looking to break.

Goncalo Guedes’ strike that went wide of the mark in the final minutes was the final piece of action of the game.
