Manu Morlanes: "Changing the dynamic will give us confidence"

One of our captains reflected on his new role and the season so far

Manu Morlanes spoke to club media after he was named among our captains to reflect up on his new role, the season so far and what is come against Atletico Madrid.

Captaincy: It's an honour and a source of pride to be captain of Mallorca. When I arrived here, almost three years ago, you dream of one day being part of the captaincy team because it means you're doing things right. I'm happy here, I'm happy with my teammates, and my family is too. And I always dream of achieving great things here. Obviously, being captain means more responsibility, which I face with great enthusiasm.

On the team: It's clear that after the defeat the other day, we felt a bit frustrated with how things turned out, also because we were aware of the moment we're going through. But we're professionals, we've been doing all this for many years, some more than others, and we understand that this is part of the process, part of the season, but we're also responsible and aware that we have to add points now and start getting good results.

On how to deal with it: I think, above all, it's the unity we have between us, between the people and the team, the atmosphere on Sunday and in every home game... that's the most important and fundamental thing. From there, obviously be self-critical and try to give the best version of yourself, and I'm sure the results will come.

On the game played and dynamics: I'm a big believer in dynamics. When last year, in the first half of the season, we were on a positive momentum, there were actions that went our way and there were certain things that didn't. And now that we're not having a good run, it seems like everything goes wrong. Even with one more player, in the stupidest play of the game, they'll call a penalty, which for me is quite dubious. But beyond that, I think changing the dynamic and getting positive results will give us confidence and make us more confident in everything. From there, it's sure to get simpler and easier for us to play well, win actions and win duels. Once we have that, we can grow to achieve victories.

On Atlético Madrid: You never know if it's good or bad to face a team of that quality at a time like this, but it's what we've had to face. The team is very convinced that we have to put in a great performance, that we'll need everyone's support to get the three points, and hopefully on Sunday, when the match is over, we'll put these first four matches behind us and from there, the team can finish with a smile on their faces and face the coming weeks in the best possible way.
