RCD Mallorca’s new players Guillermo Fernández, Alberto Moreno, Adam Buksa, Adrián Liso and John Chetauya took centre stage on Wednesday at an event held at the Specialized store in Palma, where they had the opportunity to share their thoughts on their recent arrival on the island.

The event gave the five players the chance to talk about their first weeks as RCD Mallorca players, their feelings about the new challenge and the objectives they are aiming to achieve with the team this season.

Guillermo Fernández, the latest arrival, explained how he is approaching his step up to the first team and his desire to continue developing alongside his new teammates. The midfielder described himself as a “No. 8” and highlighted the importance of learning from a squad containing players with a wealth of experience: “I consider myself a No. 8, and I hope to learn from all my teammates. On a personal level, the main thing is to enjoy myself and learn from teammates who have so much experience.”

Alberto Moreno also focused on his personal situation following a period of inactivity. The full-back explained that he has only been training for two or three weeks after being out for three months and hopes to be available soon. “I hope I can play soon. Let’s see if the manager includes me in the squad this weekend,” he said. Moreno also spoke positively about the competition within the squad: “Having so much competition in the squad makes you train harder.”

Looking ahead to a demanding season, the RCD Mallorca player stressed the importance of approaching the campaign with humility and taking it one game at a time. “It will be a long season. We have to take it game by game and not think we are better than anyone else. We have the quality to fight for promotion, which is what everyone at the club wants,” he said.

John Chetauya, meanwhile, highlighted one of his main qualities as a player: his versatility. “The manager values my versatility,” he explained. He also underlined the enthusiasm with which the team must approach its objective for the season. “We have to see the pressure of wanting to win every game as something exciting. We have to approach the objective with enthusiasm,” he added.

Adam Buksa has arrived at RCD Mallorca with the ambition of contributing goals and helping the team achieve its main objective. The striker acknowledged that matching the impact of Vedat Muriqi, who has become a major figure among the supporters, will be a difficult challenge, but he is confident he can make an important contribution to the team: “I’m here to give my best. Doing what Muriqi did, as he is a legend here, is very difficult, but I’m confident I can contribute a lot with goals.”

Buksa was clear when discussing the team’s goal: “The objective is to take this team back to LaLiga.”

Adrián Liso also spoke about his preferences on the pitch and his adaptation to the team. The attacker explained that he feels particularly comfortable playing alongside another striker and recalled that he has usually played as a winger: “I feel more comfortable with another striker up front. I’ve always played as a winger, on both sides.”

The Zaragoza-born player also called for patience when approaching a competition as demanding as LaLiga. “LaLiga is very long and we know we are going to drop points. It’s a marathon. From my experience in Zaragoza, I know it’s a long season and that you have to take it week by week,” he said.

Liso also pointed out that the large number of new arrivals means the team will need a period of adaptation, although he is confident they will continue to improve as the weeks go by: “There are a lot of new players and I think that, as the weeks go by, we will improve and pick up as many points as possible.”

The event at the Specialized store in Palma therefore gave the five new RCD Mallorca players the opportunity to share their first impressions of this new challenge, in a day marked by excitement ahead of a season in which the club will fight to return to LaLiga.
