Javier Aguirre: “We were very effective”

Find out what the boss had to say after our 2-0 win against Villarreal

Javier Aguirre shared his thoughts with the media after our 2-0 win against Villarreal. Vedat Muriqi and Amath struck either side of half-time as our unbeaten run of form extended to three games at the Ciutat de València. Find out what he had to say below:

On the match

"Possibly our style is not the most attractive, but today it was very effective. We didn't have the ball at all and when we did, we did well. We shot three or four times on goal and we were very effective.

"The fortune that we had today with that shot against the post, we lacked that against Betis with those two penalties and with Girona also with another penalty - it's true that today if that ball from Chukwueze went in we would be talking about something else. There is balance in the end on refereeing decisions and fortune."

"We needed to play this kind of game. A difficult game, trying to nullify the opponent, trying to take advantage of our counterattacks - gradually we grew into it. They were looking for alternatives and we were gaining strength. The goal came and that gave us more confidence and strength of spirit.

On Muriqi

"He played a very complete game. Vedat is a man who has weight in the dressing room, who is very well liked, who leaves everything on the pitch. He is relentless in the penalty area. Today he played a very complete game.

On Amath's goal

"I'm happy for him, especially because since I arrived in March his foot was hurting every day and that was unfortunate. Until he decided to have surgery, he had a strong, painful and long rehabilitation, but today he is happy.”
