This year marks a decade since Jaume Colombás became the unmistakable voice of RCD Mallorca at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.
It was in 2015 when, while working in the club's marketing department and DJing in nightclubs, he received an unexpected call from Pep Lluís Jaume, then the stadium's host, who was unable to attend the match against Ponferradina and asked him to fill in. ‘I did that game, Mallorca vs Ponferradina, the mathematical salvation of that year to avoid relegation to Segunda División B,’ Jaume recalls. That day changed his personal history with the club.
Since then, Colombás has given voice to the most vibrant moments of Mallorquinismo. "Turning 10 years old is a very important milestone for me, but it's all about delivering in every game,’ he says humbly. Although his role is not always the most visible, he recognises himself as a part of the emotional gear of the club. ‘For better or worse,’ he points out, with the responsibility of accompanying each match at home. At 37, he says he is living a dream he has had since he was a child: ‘I'm proud, a dream I've had since I was a child and I'm fulfilling it."
In his account, there is no shortage of recognition for the club's true strength: its fans. "They are the driving force behind the club. I believe that Mallorca cannot be understood without its Mallorcanism", he assures. The supporters' clubs, the faithful in every stand, those who make the stadium vibrate, are for Jaume the soul of RCD Mallorca. ‘Mallorca is its people and its people are Mallorca."
Among so many matches, goals and emotions, there are moments that have left a special mark. Colombás highlights Abdón Prats' goal on the night of San Juan in 2019 as one of the most emotional and ‘a dream fulfilled’. He also relives with intensity Dani Rodríguez's goal in the final of the Copa del Rey in La Cartuja: "I get goosebumps. The explosion I had at that moment, which was also underneath Athletic Club's backline, and I heard the roar of the crowd from the other end".
However, every goal has its place in his memory, he assures us that they have all been special, both those in Segunda and Segunda B as well as those in LaLiga.
