"(Hi) Som", the great challenge of Tòfol Castanyer for childhood cancer

The Mallorcan athlete will run around the perimeter of the island in support of the fight against childhood leukemia.

On September 26, 27, and 28, the athlete from Sóller, Tòfol Castanyer, will face the most demanding challenge of his career: completing 336 kilometers around the perimeter of Mallorca without stopping. At 53 years old, the ultramarathon runner is taking on this challenge under the motto "every step, every kilometer, every donation = more research for childhood cancer," a project that combines sports, identity, and solidarity.

"How many hours will I take? No idea. It could take me 40 or 50 hours," Castanyer confessed during the presentation of the initiative, named "(Hi) Som." For the runner, the challenge is not only athletic but also vital: "Maybe such a big challenge deserved a big cause. To someone who is going through a tough time, we want to say: we support you, we are with you. Sports can be a motivation to raise awareness."

The initiative has generated a wide social response and has the support of prominent figures such as the renowned mountain runner Kilian Jornet and musician Pau Debon, vocalist of Antònia Font.

Jornet emphasized that Tòfol "is doing it again, taking on the challenge of running around all of Mallorca for an important cause like the fight against childhood cancer," and announced that six points along the route have been set up where people can join him.

For his part, Debon highlighted the community spirit of the project: "It’s a Mallorcan brotherhood. I encourage you to go see him and cheer him on in this beautiful, supportive, and deeply ours initiative."
