The club reinforces its commitment to sustainability and care for the environment

Find out the initiatives the club are running to promote sustainability

RCD Mallorca continues to establish itself as a environmental sustainability leader within sport.

Through multiple initiatives, the Balearic club has shown that football can and should be a tool for social and ecological transformation. From the promotion of sustainable mobility to direct actions in the conservation of the marine environment, the club has integrated sustainability as one of its strategic pillars.

Promoting sustainable mobility

One of the club's recent projects has been its involvement in promoting the green hydrogen buses of the Municipal Transport Company of Palma (EMT).

The team travelled to the stadium in one of these ecological vehicles for their most recent fixture alongside club's president Andy Kohlberg, CEO of Business Alfonso Díaz and the mayor of Palma Jaime Martínez.

This action reaffirmed the institutional commitment to cleaner and more efficient mobility, in a joint action that reinforces the values of sustainability promoted by the club.

This initiative, the result of collaboration with Palma City Council and EMT, was also accompanied by an information campaign during the match, projected on the video scoreboard, with the aim of raising fans' awareness of the importance of sustainable public transport.

Road towards a zero waste stadium

One of RCD Mallorca's greatest challenges is to make the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix the first stadium in Spain to obtain zero waste certification.

With the help of PreZero, an ambitious project has been initiated that aims to recycle more than 90% of the waste generated in its facilities.

To achieve this, more recycling points have been installed throughout the stadium, thus facilitating the active collaboration of the fans. This transformation is not only aimed at environmental efficiency, but also seeks to educate the entire community on sustainable practices.

Care for the marine environment

RCD Mallorca has actively participated in the Circular Seas programme, promoted by Coca-Cola.

Over the last year, the club has organised clean-up days on the beaches of Cala Major and Port de Sóller, mobilising both its supporters and players from the Youth and Cadet categories.

During these days, kilos of waste were removed and later sorted for recycling. The data obtained were integrated into a scientific base for the development of marine conservation projects.

Presence at FITUR 2025: sport as an engine for change

In January of this year, the club presented its commitments and advances in sustainability at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2025). In an event held together with institutions such as the Government of the Balearic Islands, PreZero and LaLiga, the work of the club was highlighted as an example of social responsibility, inclusion and sustainable development.

Through an emotional video and various interventions, RCD Mallorca showed how its actions go beyond the playing field, becoming an active agent in the construction of a fairer future that respects the environment.

A sustainable commitment from the start: the BiciPalma virtual station

Among all the sustainable mobility initiatives promoted by the club, the collaboration with BiciPalma is the oldest. For more than a year, RCD Mallorca has had the first virtual BiciPalma station installed in the vicinity of the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix. This pioneering action, carried out in conjunction with Palma City Council and the Societat Municipal d'Aparcaments i Projectes (SMAP), has offered fans a clean and convenient alternative for cycling on matchdays.

Unlike traditional stations, this new virtual station does not have physical anchors, allowing for greater flexibility in the number of bikes parked. It is also part of a wider plan to expand the service, with new stations and electric bicycles, thus reinforcing sustainable urban mobility in the city.

With these initiatives, RCD Mallorca not only reaffirms its commitment to the environment, but also demonstrates that sport can be a powerful catalyst for social change. Its commitment to sustainability positions the club as a benchmark in the transformation towards a more conscious and responsible model.
