Match Report: Atletico Madrid 3-0 RCD Mallorca

Sorloth and Almada strike while David López scores an own goal on an afternoon to forget in the capital

Sorloth and Almada were on target while David López scored an own goal as we fell to a 3-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid on a tough afternoon in the capital.

Jagoba Arrasate introduced David Lopez in central defence while Antonio Sanchez replaced Jan Virgili on the wing.

Leo Roman was called into action early as he had to make a series of successive low blocks, most notably against a follow up from Julian Alvarez, to keep the scoreline goalless.

There was not much he could do in the 22nd minute however as having done well to deny Marco Llorente’s powerful volley, Sorloth found himself in the right place at the right time to poke home on the follow up from close range.

It would prove to be one of the few pieces of action from the first half as we headed into the break a goal down.

Vedat Muriqi would have our best chance of levelling the scoreline in the 74th minute, but his header crept just wide of the post.

The hosts would double their advantage via a defensive error as Mateu Jaume’s attempted clearance of a drilled cross from Llorente rebounded off Lopez and found the bottom corner.

Almada rounded off the scoring with four minutes left on the clock with a powerful effort from inside the box as we fell to defeat.
