Arnau Puigmal is ready to get to work.
Our new signing was on club media duties to discuss his decision to head to the island, his first impressions and why Luis Garcia "was key" to his move.
How are you finding your first few days as an RCD Mallorca player?
“I’m really pleased, really happy to be here, to have signed for this great club. To be honest, it’s been a short, unusual holiday, because I finished playing in the play-offs late, but I’m really looking forward to getting started and I’m very happy to be here.”
Have you spoken to Luis García yet?
“Yes, we’ve had several conversations. I had a couple of options and I think the trust he showed in me was key to making this decision.”
Do you know any of your teammates yet?
“Yes, I know several of them, from having played against them on the pitch and through mutual acquaintances. I’ve heard very good things about the squad.”
How would you describe yourself as a player?
“I’m the sort of player who, when I do things, likes to do them properly. When I step onto the pitch, I always say: I can’t guarantee I’ll make a good run or deliver a good cross, but I can assure you I’ll give my all for this club. That’s something I’ll do 100 per cent.”
What are you expecting from this season?
“I think we all know the Second Division more or less. You can never be too sure, but in the Second Division even less so, because the matches are very competitive and very evenly matched.”
What do you think could be the key to achieving this season’s objectives?
“It sounds like a cliché, but it’s the reality of football: taking it one match at a time, because that’s the key. As I’ve said, you can’t let your guard down for a single match in the Second Division, whether it’s the last one, the penultimate one, the second or the third. Take it one match at a time. In the Second Division, I think everything is decided at the end. The final stretch is the key, and throughout the year you have to pick up as many points as possible.”
What message do you have for the fans?
“Like everything in life, it’s time to turn the page quickly and move on to the next step, and right now we’re here, we’re in the Second Division, and my aim – and I think everyone’s – is to get the team back into the First Division.”
