Antonio Raíllo, Samu Costa, Mateo Joseph and Jagoba Arrasate evaluate the defeat to Real Betis

Find out what the boss and our players had to say about a frustrating evening

Antonio Raíllo, Samu Costa, Mateo Joseph and Jagoba Arrasate spoke to club media after our 3-0 defeat to Real Betis. Find out what they had to say below:

Antonio Raíllo

On the game: It's not just today, but the whole season. We won a lot of space, they won a lot of counterattacks, the result could have been even more lopsided in their favour. I think we did practically nothing dangerous. The positive thing, in quotation marks, to find something positive, is that in the second half the team didn't let themselves get carried away. They continued to compete in a situation that, logically, with 3-0 at half-time, was not easy.

On the second half: We're footballers, we know what's going on, honestly. They probably stepped up a gear and competed better, but Betis also took their foot off the gas. So, as I said, we need to take a good look at ourselves as players, see what each of us is doing individually and know what we can bring to the team.

On the next match: You can't always be self-critical, you can't always be saying “there are things to fix”. “There are things to fix” no, things are either fixed or they're not. Let's hope it's not too late.

Samu Costa:

On the game: It was a very difficult match. We could have made it a little harder for Betis, we knew how dangerous they were on the wings. We were poor with the ball. We showed character, but in the end we lost. We have to look in the mirror, watch the match and see what we can improve. Because the world isn't ending, but we have to wake up, because we need to win.

On match highlights: After their first goal, we played very well with the ball. We were finding Sergi with our passes. Mateo was also creating danger, and Yan... But they were very effective: four shots, I think, three goals. In the end, it's difficult, it happened to us in Seville too. But we have to leave a better impression.

On next match: Today and tomorrow are days for self-criticism, for analysis, for thinking about what each of us did wrong, and from tomorrow onwards we have to focus on Sunday, because we have to turn this situation around.

Mateo Joseph:

On his assessment: The truth is that there are three situations here, aren't there? You can see the talent they have.  It's true that we can correct a lot of things and do better, because we know where we're coming from. And, well, we need to improve, watch the match again and get ready for next week, which is very important.

On actions needed: It's clear that we, Mallorca, are a team that will fight until the end. That we are representing a badge. We have to go out there and give it our all. 3-0 on the scoreboard, but anything is possible in football. We have to see it as a difficult challenge, but one that we have to take on with both hands. I think we've given a good account of ourselves, we've just been unlucky. And, well, we have to try to improve the things we haven't been able to do so well and keep going.

On next match: Exactly, that's the idea, isn't it? Everything has to work for us, everything has to add up, we all have to pull in the same direction. I think there are good things to take away from this, and now we have to go for it next week at home with our fans, before the break, and go for it with enthusiasm.

Jagoba Arrasate:

On the match assessment: It was a tough night. I think the match started evenly, they scored that goal relatively easily, then we had our best spell, but then two goals in quick succession ultimately took the game away from us. In the second half, we wanted to but couldn't, and the bottom line is that we can't be so fragile. It's true that we had some good spells, but that's not enough, especially against a team like Betis, who are so strong, we can't concede what we conceded.

On half time: It's not the time to point fingers, it's the time to help each other, to come out with our heads held high. I think the start of the second half was good. Well, at 3-0, it's usually game over, it's difficult. You try to score a goal to get back into the game, but it's been tough, and what we have to do is stick together, train well during the week to compete in the best possible way in that important match we have with our fans before the break. I think we need a win, and hopefully we can all pull together to get it.

On the next match: I think the team has been playing well at times lately, but it needs to be more solid, more difficult for the opposition to play against, and in the first division, opponents don't forgive mistakes, especially Betis. So in that respect, we need to be a more difficult team to play against and, with our fans behind us, we need that little bit more intensity, that little bit more determination on Sunday to go into the break with a win and with a different feeling.
