Fernando Vázquez spoke with the press prior to Real Mallorca´s game against C.D. Tenerife and detailed that the contest “is important for what we do” even though the week proceeded regularly “the week went well and today they topped it off with a good training session.” The team is firing and ready, but it is not okay to just say it, you have to prove it on the field.”
The coach elaborated on the opponent, “With Martí their team has risen from the bottom of the standings and is now playing very well, very dangerously” and he refused to reply to Tenerife´s complaints about previous refereeing that they have had, “everyone, at some point, could complain about the referees, but we don´t remember when they have given us a favor. I could have complained internally and it would not bother me if it came out that way or another. They try to be objective and tomorrow they will be as well. The referees have to stay above these things.
The Galician said that he has never felt, or feels questioned by the club and when asked about the possibility of being replaced by Olaizola, he guaranteed that he does not have problems with the Basque-local, “he is prepared to carry the team, he is an employee of the club and has always shown a willingness to help. He, if asked in front the media, has to answer. And it is the question that appears less couth than the response.”
Vázquez reiterated that at this stage of the championship, “mood is vital. The head is the controller” and he pointed out that tomorrow, “the team has to overcome this dangerous situation with clarity. We must have confidence and the support of our people.” He asked for support from the fan-base who trusts in the team, and “has come to help us succeed in these times.”
Regarding the accusations that the team is not playing with intensity, the coach profoundly denied, “when a team always loses it is always accused of that. Mallorca has to fight against opponents and against those expectations associated with them. You can say that a team lacks depth, or goals, but you cannot say that it lacks effort. We always show up for the games.
Vázquez also quashed the controversy of an assistant, “look, if people say there is a problem now with Mallorca they say it’s that I don´t have an assistant. Jaume and Miki help me; I have plenty of confidence in them. So I am not alone, I have people around me that help me completely. “I do not feel alone or abandoned.”
Finally, he demanded respect from the press, who, “find images and interpret them, but always negatively.” Referring to the “so-called” confrontation with Ortuño, “if someone wants me to confront them, I will. Why does it have to be negative if I talk with him? I do not care to record private conversations, so all that was said about it cannot be the truth,” he concluded.
