“We are excited and want to make this a good season”

Vicente Moreno says he can’t wait for the start of RCD Mallorca’s first season in the Primera Division after a six-year absence.

The manager has achieved back-to-back promotions with the club since his arrival in 2017 and is determined to hit the ground running this campaign against SD Eibar at San Moix (Saturday, August 17th, 8pm).

“We can’t wait for the game to start and we want to do well,” says Moreno. “We are lucky to to be able to start the season at home in front of our fans. Knowing that we are going to have their help and having their support is an important part of starting well".

RCD Mallorca have not faced SD Eibar in a competitive fixture for five years and Moreno believes his side must be wary of an established Primera Division side like Los Armeros.

“They have had some changes, but their core remains the same,” he continues. “As well as this, the manager remains the same. I think that Eibar is a mirror in which we see ourselves in: they had a long journey to the La Liga and have been doing thing well”.

“They are a difficult side, particularly due to the manner in which they play in - they don’t make things comfortable. We will have to do the right things to have a chance of winning”.

Playing the first two games of the season at home, the boss is under no illusion that the San Moix could be a decisive factor ahead of a long campaign.

“The Son Moix has been so important in reaching our objective until now,” he adds. “The fans have the same role, or an even bigger one, now that we are going to have more difficulties than previous seasons and it is there that the people must push and support the team. It makes us more competitive and increases the chances of winning”.

Moreno will make his debut as a La Liga manager at San Moix, a stadium that is of significance to the boss having previously made his first appearance as a professional player at the ground.

“It is something throughout time that has left a mark on me,” he continues. “It’s difficult to debut as a player in the Primera Division - I did it at San Moix - and it is so much more difficult to debut as a manager”.

"Once again I will do it at Son Moix. It’s an anecdotal thing for me on a personal level and I will remember it forever”.

With suspense continuing to build on the island ahead of the opening game of the new season, Moreno knows that this is an opportunity that is not handed to everyone.

“Nobody has given us our chance in the Primera Division,” he says. “We know that it is a difficult to get here and we want to maintain it”.

"We have worked so hard and sacrificed a lot, now we want to to continue and enjoy our way of doing things: competing, winning games and feeling important inside the league”.
