Vicente Moreno: ‘We faced a good team and won - you have to be happy’

The manager reflected upon our 3-1 win over Villarreal CF at his post-match press conference

Vicente Moreno shared his thoughts with the assembled press following our 3-1 victory against Villarreal at Son Moix. The manager discussed the game, winning two penalties and Take Kubo’s impact on the result - see what he had to say below:

On the game…

“We had a very serious game and above all the intention was to win and the strength of that has determined our chances to win the game. At 3-1 we were calmer about everything and could pause for a moment. It has helped us to be in front and of the final part of the game.

“The third goal was the most important. If it had stayed 2-1 at the start of the second half, doubts would have started to enter. The result can change in two plays. The win was important for a number of reasons but at times it was very difficult. We had a very difficult rival, controlled the ball well and had a high physical level as well as speed. We had to be in front of the first team and we had to win. We can be very happy.

On the penalties…

“In the end what is clear to me is that in order for a penalty to be issued in our favour, something has to be done by the referees. This week we spent more time in the opposite area that our own.”

On the league…

“We had to get a win, we had to get breathing space and a little more air. On top of that, it was very important to be able to be in front of the relegation zone after a victory. I don’t know if we’re far enough above the relegation zone yet. It will be how it is, but after a win it’s always better. We have done things well away from home. Until now, they have not translated into positive results.

On Kubo…

“Kubo is a very good player but he can better. You don’t want to put too much on him in excess. It’s a process that can be what we all believe it will be. He is improving and for us it’s important to support his quality. Kubo has always appeared when he is playing, but especially today, he was present throughout which has to be continued and improved.”
