Fernando Vázquez has attended the press in the wake of the Real Mallorca’s defeat and has underlined that the result is very negative towards the team’s interests, “we were enthused with the victory. I think we lacked some speed indeed and depth in some passages of the game, and we paid for it”
In this sense the manager recognized that, to his mind, “we were not outstanding today”. He conceded that it is tought to “lose a game with only one shot on target against” and the disappointment of the fans who crowded the stands, “I comprehend that it is a huge let-down to begin this way. We could have used more strength and intensity for sure. Winning teams know how to stand up after falling down and we are going to stand up on our feet again”.
The Galician saved from criticism a few positive things that he did see in the team, “we have had our options to score but it has not been possible. It was not a formation problem but a determination one. We have done interesting things”. Yet, he slashed at Moutinho’s sending off as he regarded it as too rigorous, “cards are meant to be shown at not sportman-like attitudes, unlike that situation. Sending him off was all wrong”.
Vázquez continued his feedback at the team’s performance and blasted at the team for “not doing things when we had to do them. We all thought that it was going to be easy and the fact that we were unable to take advantage of the time they were one man down actually erodes our image”.
Finally, the manager understands the fans and their anger, “I feel the same so do the players”. I would have preferred to win, logically. We know that the defeat is part of the process, but the problem is that the defeat comes too soon”, the summed up.
