Samu Costa’s header was cancelled out by Umar Sadiq as we had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw with Valencia CF.
Martin Demichelis opted for Takuma Asano on the flank while Martin Valjent returned to central defence at the expense of David Lopez, partnering makeshift centre back Omar Mascarell.
Chances were few and far between with little to talk about come the break as neither side were able to create anything of note in the first half.
The game came to life four minutes after the restart as Samu Costa headed home Sergi Darder’s whipped cross into the box from a short corner routine.
Pablo Torre almost doubled our lead when his whipped free-kick was palmed away by Stole Dimitrievski minutes later.
We were in the ascendancy as Jan Virgili then managed to break through on goal, although his whipped finish was pushed wide by the on-rushing Dimitrievski just after the hour mark.
The visitors levelled in the 67th minute when Sadiq reacted first to a flicked-on header at the back post from open play.
Jan Virgili almost provided an instant response a minute later finding himself in a similar position to earlier in the game, although his drilled effort was blocked by Dimitrievski.
Our winger would continue to cause problems and following a broken down counter attack, the ball fell to Jan Virgili before he volleyed over the bar from close range.
The last chance of the game would fall to Samu Costa although his header was wide of the mark in injury time as we had to settle for a point.
