Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki get together to discuss RCD Mallorca and the island

The basketball legends joined us at our training ground for a special discussion

RCD Mallorca shareholder Steve Nash was joined by a fellow NBA legend in Dirk Nowitzki at Son Bibiloni for a chat on all things RCD Mallorca, elite performance and the growth of football.

Arrival at RCD Mallorca

Nash recalled how his relationship with the club began: “We arrived with the team in the Second Division, we were saved on the final day, and the following year, we were relegated to Second Division “B.” It was a crazy start, but we managed to come back and reach LaLiga. It has been an incredible journey, and I'm proud to be part of this century-old history.”

The Canadian emphasised that the club's growth depends on “defining a direction, developing from within, and working together, as we don't have the budget of the big teams.”

"Trust the process"

Nowitzki highlighted collective effort as the key to success: "In sports, you should never get too carried away by the good times or get bogged down by the bad. You have to trust the coaching staff, the players, and the management so that everyone is pulling in the same direction."

The German also praised Mallorca's last season which resulted in fans which could "even dream of Europe," and encouraged the team for the new season.

Both agreed on the importance of Mallorca as a unique destination, beyond its climate and beaches. "What makes this island special is its history, its culture, and its cuisine," said Nash.

Nowitzki, a frequent visitor, praised the island's ability to "maintain its heritage despite the growth of tourism." Nash closed his speech with a message of cautious ambition: "It's an exciting time, but we know we must continue working with humility and patience to maintain the stability we have achieved."
