Report: Roda 3 - RCD Mallorca 1

El Mallorca pierde ante un rival más rodado pero domina la segunda parte

RCD Mallorca lost three goals to one against Roda JC in a preseason game at the Roda ground. The homeside was in much better form, and dominated a majority of the game, with the lone RCDM goal coming through Fernando Cano.

The game could not have started worse for Vázquez and his troops, who went behind in the 5th minute on a Hyfte cross to Rosheuvel. Mallorca tried hard to maintain possession of the ball, but the majority of 50-50 challenges ended in favor of the home team.

The islanders suffered to maintain any sort of sustained rhythm against Roda, who will begin the season in a few days and even tried, unsuccessfully, to let off the gas pedal. The Dutch side rampaged through the right wing, where they created the second goal in the 20th minute. It was much like the first goal, a cross from the side, a controlled pass back to an onrushing attacker, Auassar in this case, who merely placed the ball around Santamaría.

Vázquez´ group did go in search of a goal, but not dangerously, and were forced to play the ball in its own half. Óscar Diaz did test the goalie, in his only offensive contribution.

Accordingly, Coach Vázquez changed the entire team at halftime. The entrants tried to change the game by playing more vertically, and did look more potent offensively. An acrobatic shot from Fernando Cano warned the opponent that the tides had changed, and then in the 56th minute, Raillo´s headed effort tested the goalie, then Juan Rodriguez headed straight into the goalie´s arms.

Mallorca started an all-out attack, leaving space behind for Roda to counter. Roda did catch Mallorca creeping forward a few times, but failed to take a bigger lead. The bermellones pushed and pushed in search of a goal for honor, at least. And the Lago Junior shot was deflected to Fernando Cano, who headed into the net.

Then, from the 77th minute on, nothing changed. Mallorca searched unsuccessfully through the Roda defense, and after a seeming eternity, the referee whistled the end.
